マリーナ、このスカートの裾、記憶ある？
Marina, do you recognize the hem of my skirt?
35年前ぐらいだと思うけど、あなたが日本を出る際に置いていった荷物の中にあったインド・ラジャスタンの巻スカートの裾だよ。この愛らしい青い巻きスカート、私も気に入って、日本で何度か着たりしたけど（ちょっと目立つ色と刺繍なので、普段は着ない）、だんだんだんだんシミができたり、刺繍の糸がほつれてきただけでなく、私自身結構な年齢になっちゃって、とても着れなくなった。でもなんか捨てられなくて、ずーと佐賀の押入れにあった。
荷物は極力減らす方向を目指す今日この頃、着ないものは処分しなければならない。翌朝が資源物ゴミの日という時に、「あ、今度作るカラーシャの服にこの裾の刺繍部分を縫い付ければ、一石二鳥ではないか」と閃いた。それで裾部分を切り取って、ルンブール谷に戻ってくる時にもってきたわけだ。傷んだ部分の強度のためにわからないように手廻しミシンで縫ったり、刺繍の上にさらに手で刺繍したりしたのを、黒いカラーシャ・スカートの裾に縫い付けた。
最近はカラーシャもけっこう金まわりが良くて、女性は民族衣装にすごくお金をかける。自分で刺繍を縫うんだったらいいけど、町の店で４～5000ルピーもする刺繍シートを買って裾や胸元に縫い付けたりする。だから一着の民族衣装で、布地や糸、帯、頭飾りで材料費が10000ルピー以上かかるようになっている。私のは材料は1000ルピー以下で金を使わず、楽しみながら民族衣装を作っているよ。
When you left Japan about 35 years ago, I found blue Rajestani skirt with hand embroidery on the hem
in the baggage you abandaned.
I had worn a few time in the past in Japan. Afterward it became bit of worn out, but I couldn’t throw it away
because it was pretty and also was memory of you. It has been laying in oshiire, the closet.
Last year I suddenly got an idea that I could re-use it for my Kalasha dress.
So I cut the hem of the Rajastani skirt, and took to Rumbur valley.
I stitched some more embroidery by hand on it for strength and put it on my new Kalsha dress for winter festivel.
In recent years, the Kalash women spend so much money on their dress which they put more and more embroidery pattern.
They buy those embroidery sheets from the shops in the town which usually cost 4~5000 Rs. only for the sheet.
I only spend less than 1000 Rs. for making my Kalasha dress with pleasure.
